About The Hanbury

Formerly a Coroner’s Court, Morgue, and place of execution, The Hanbury Arms is built above ancient Templar tunnels and a powerful leyline intersection. The original hanging beam remains visible at the entrance to the cellar.

Owners Tracey and Nigel Turner House their extensive haunted object collection, The Hanbury is renowned for both its rich history and intense paranormal reputation. The site has featured in numerous media reports, with guests and investigators regularly reporting unexplained phenomena such as sudden temperature drops, object movement, disembodied voices, and footsteps.

Paranormal Activity

The most dominant presence is believed to be a shapeshifting Elemental Spirit, commonly referred to as an “Imp.” This entity has been documented appearing as a dog-like or pig-like creature, or as a small humanoid figure. It is frequently reported bounding across the roof of the Victorian Parlour and has been captured on SLS cameras near Hangman’s Landing.

Other documented spirits include:

  • The Old Crone / Witch

  • Freddie, a Victorian boy

  • Emily, a young woman often accompanied by children

  • Mary, believed to be buried within the cellar

  • Rob, a mischievous gentleman spirit

  • The Holy Man, thought to be a monk

  • The Quaker Gentleman

  • The Stable Master, William the Cobbler, and several residual spirits dating back to the coaching inn era

Commonly reported activity includes thrown objects, unexplained voices, footsteps, and the sound of giggling children.

Unique Features

  • Original coffins housed in the former cellar morgue

  • Connections to leylines, a Masonic Hall, and ancient Templar tunnels
